HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOUR DELL LAPTOP BE RESTARTED?
We must first understand why you might need to restart your Dell laptop before we can teach you how to do so. There are numerous reasons why your laptop might need to be restarted. This typically occurs when you update your computer, install new software, or discover a virus that needs to be removed—most antivirus programs demand that you restart your laptop immediately after removing a virus.
HOW TO TURN A DELL LAPTOP BACK ON
Now that you are aware of the appropriate time to reset your Dell laptop, let’s get started. You can reset your laptop in a few different ways, some of which are simpler than others, but we’ll go over the majority of them here.
USING THE WINDOWS START MENU IS METHOD #1.
Since this is the simplest and most popular approach, you probably already know how it works; however, in case you don’t, let me briefly explain:
To access the Windows Start Menu, click the icon located at the bottom left of your screen or press the Windows key on your keyboard. The Windows key may not appear on your keyboard if you use a different keyboard layout, such as a WKL keyboard, which lacks a Windows key.
You can put your device to sleep, completely shut down, or restart it by clicking on the Power Button icon located just above the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen when you launch the Windows Start menu.
UTILIZING THE BUILT-IN POWER BUTTON IS METHOD #2.
This method, also referred to as a “Hard Restart,” is frequently used when your laptop is having problems that are causing it to become unresponsive, slow, or unable to access the start menu. You should only use this as a last resort if you are unable to reset your laptop using the standard method.
Unplugging your mouse, external hard drives, external keyboards, and any additional USB devices from your computer is the first thing you should do because leaving them in will break your hard drives and USB devices.
You then need to press and hold the power button on your laptop until it completely shuts off. To turn the computer back on, press the power button once more.
METHOD #3: UTILIZING THE PROMPT COMMAND
Only experienced users should use this technique as utilizing the command prompt, often abbreviated as “CMD,” can be very intimidating, particularly for first-time Windows users.
To begin with, you must launch the command prompt by typing cmd into the taskbar search bar at the bottom of your screen. The command prompt, a black window with white text, will appear when you select the first option that appears.
To restart your Dell laptop, you must now type shutdown -r and hit Enter. Alternatively, you can type shutdown -s to shut down your computer rather than restart it.
DELL LAPTOP RESET
If you encounter some irreversible problems that require you to reset your Dell computer entirely, you will lose all of your data and have to start over with a fresh Windows installation. If your computer is running slow, you may want to consider doing a fresh Windows install since it will get rid of all bloatware and speed up your device.
A virus may have infected your device; in this case, it’s best to reset it as soon as possible to ensure that the virus has been fully removed.
HOW TO RESET A LAPTOP MADE BY DELL
It will take several steps to ensure that you are doing this process correctly, and you should back up your data beforehand to prevent losing any crucial files.
STEP 1: MAKE A BACKUP OF ANY CRUCIAL FILES.
It is always advisable to back up any important data onto a USB stick or external hard drive because resetting your Dell laptop will result in the loss of all files stored on your hard drive. A cloud storage service like Google Drive is another option.
GO TO THE WINDOWS RECOVERY MENU IN STEP TWO.
The next step is to access the Windows Recovery Menu; the procedure varies based on the Windows version you are using, so we will walk you through each step for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
If you are using Windows 10, click the Windows icon to open the start menu. Then, click the gear icon that appears above the power icon to open the Settings app. Alternatively, you can use the taskbar search bar to find the Settings app.
To access the recovery menu, click Update & Security > Recovery while you are in the settings app.
If you’re using Windows 11, launch the Settings app by typing its name into the Windows search bar. From there, choose either Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options > Recovery or System > Recovery.
